A self-exclusion (or self-ban) is where you request to be banned from specific gambling providers, products or services. Self-exclusion can be an important step if you are thinking about changing your gambling.

HOW DO I GET A GAMBLING SELF-BAN?

Most providers of gambling in Queensland are required to offer self-exclusion from their venues or products, and gambling providers need to assist you if you request a self-exclusion.

How you arrange to self-ban from gambling will depend on how you gamble.

BANNING YOURSELF FROM GAMBLING AT CLUBS, HOTELS, and TAB OUTLETS

Depending on the venue, you may choose to be banned from the whole venue, gaming machine area, or gambling activity (such as Keno or TAB), or a combination of these areas. Whilst excluded from the selected areas or activities, you may still enter other areas of the venue, such as the bistro or dining areas, for the duration of your exclusion.

Ask to speak to the Customer Liaison Officer or the person nominated by the venue to assist with self-exclusion. This person will provide you with the self-exclusion forms and the contact details of your local Gambling Help service.

You will be required to complete a Self-exclusion notice (Form 3A) and may be asked to provide a recent photo. The Customer Liaison Officer will record your details and provide you with a completed Self-exclusion order (Form 3B).

You can also ask a Gambling Help service to assist you to exclude remotely from one or more venues without having to physically enter a venue. 

A Gambling Help service representative will help you to complete the Self-exclusion notice (Form 3A), as well as an Authority and identification form, which will allow the Gambling Help service to liaise with the venue/s on your behalf. The venue/s will send a copy of the completed Self-exclusion order (Form 3B) to you and the Gambling Help service.

A self-exclusion will take effect immediately and remain for up to five years, but you have a cooling off period of 24 hours.

BANNING YOURSELF FROM GAMBLING AT CASINOS

If you choose to ban yourself from a casino, ask to speak to the person nominated by the casino to assist with self-exclusion. This person will provide you with the self-exclusion forms and the contact details of your local Gambling Help service.

You will be required to complete a Self-exclusion notice (Form 3A) which must be accompanied by a recent photo. The Customer Liaison Officer will record your details and provide you with a completed Self-exclusion order (Form 3B).

A self-exclusion will take effect immediately and remain for up to five years, but you have a cooling off period of 24 hours.

BANNING YOURSELF FROM ONLINE GAMBLING AND MOBILE GAMBLING

For online gambling, different providers have their own way to help you self-exclude.

If you are choosing to self-exclude from online gambling, you should consider doing so with all online gambling providers that you have accounts with. Find some helpful self-exclusion information and contacts for many online gambling providers below:

  • BetStop: You can choose to exclude yourself on a temporary or permanent basis. Self-exclusion will apply to all sites including web, mobile and tablet applications, and phone betting. To self-exclude, register on the BetStop website or ring 1800 238 786.

  • Sportsbet: You can choose to exclude yourself on a temporary or permanent basis. Self-exclusion will apply to all sites including web, mobile and tablet applications, and phone betting. To self-exclude, login to your Sportsbet account and visit the Responsible Gambling section in My Account/Settings. From here you can select the appropriate option.
