How to Issue and Revoke Gambling Exclusion Directions

This information is for gambling providers only.

Learn how to issue and revoke a gambling exclusion direction to a gaming venue patron.

What is an exclusion direction?

An exclusion direction is when a gambling provider excludes or bans a patron from all or part of a gaming venue or gambling activity.

Why would I issue an exclusion direction?

You may issue an exclusion direction if:

  • You’re concerned about a patron’s gambling behaviour
  • You believe on reasonable grounds that the patron is gambling harmfully
  • Your venue has been approached by a concerned friend or family member of the patron.
How to issue an exclusion direction

You can issue an exclusion direction by giving the patron an exclusion direction (Form 3D).

An exclusion will take effect immediately and remain enforced for up to five years.

You can find further information in the Queensland Responsible Gambling Resource Manual.

How to revoke an exclusion direction

An application to revoke an exclusion direction may be made by the patron at least one year after the day the patron was issued the exclusion direction.

To revoke an exclusion direction, the patron must complete the revocation notice exclusion direction (Form 3F).

You (the gambling provider) must consider the application and make a decision whether to revoke or refuse it within 28 days.

A patron may only apply to revoke their exclusion once each year commencing on the anniversary of the day the patron was given the Exclusion direction.

You can find further information in the Queensland Responsible Gambling Resource Manual.
